Ocean Packing: What I Pack for a Day on the Ocean
Hey ocean lovers! ☀️ Today I’m sharing my ocean packing list-the essentials I never skip when heading out for ocean safaris and other boat intensive vacations. These picks keep me protected, comfy, and ready for anything—from open-ocean snorkeling to afternoons on the seas. Let’s dive in!

1. Waterlust One‑Piece (Whale Shark Print)
At the top of my ocean packing list is my go-to suit whale shark one piece that doubles as swimwear and sun-appropriate cover in a single layer. I love the whale shark print and find that the suit is flattering. I also bring a leggings and sports bra combo from waterlust. The open ocean swims mean that you may encounter a lot of critters that can sting you, so covering at least half your body is recommended.
2. Plastic Sandals (Target)
Cheap, durable, comfortable, and easy to slip on after beach swims—plus, no worries if they get seawater or sand on them.
3. A Cute Buff (AKA Neck Gaiter)
If you’re planning long days on the boat looking for whales or other sea creatures, bring a buff to protect your face from sun and wind. Definitely don’t forget this from your ocean packing list! Here are a few cute ocean-themed buffs for UPF 50+ protection on long boat rides or hikes.
4. Hat (Baseball or Bucket)
Pretty self-explanatory.
5. Reef-Safe Sea2Stream Sunscreen (SPF 30)
I use mineral, biodegradable sunscreen to protect my skin—and the reefs—without harmful chemicals . Stream2Sea’s reef-safer line checks all the eco- boxes.
Apply regularly!
6. Cheap Sunglasses from Quay (On Sale)
I love snagging Quay shades on sale—they’re stylish, polarizing, and easily replaceable if lost at sea.
7. North Face Windbreaker
It’s often a lot cooler at sea, especially in the open ocean, than on land. Plus, if you’re damp and there’s wind from the boat, you may get surprisingly cold. It’s waterproof and compact enough to toss in a beach bag. Find it here.
8. Dry-Bag
A dry bag will keep your valuables and towel dry. I have this one from Project Hui. Your ocean packing isn’t complete without one of these!
9. Towel and or Dive Poncho
You probably don’t need BOTH a towel and a dive poncho. I have this poncho from Girls that Scuba that I love.
10. Patience!
Any time you’re headed out to find wild life off shore, it takes patience and a little luck!
